When a user is looking to pick up an extra shift, they can apply to cover Open Shifts in the Shift Marketplace. Open Shifts are posted by Admins when there is extra work available.
Viewing Open Shifts
Users can browse available Open Shifts in the Shift Marketplace section of the Calendar tab. Open Shifts are identified in the feed with a blue stripe indicator and they are labeled as an Open Shift.
When users tap on an Open Shift, they will access the Shift Details information. All relevant information about the shift will be displayed, including the Job Title associated with the shift, the start time and end time, the quantity of Open Shifts available, and the number of users that have applied to cover. Users can tap on the map icon to get directions to the shift.
Viewing Shift Comments
On the Shift Details page, users can access public Shift Comments below the shift description. This is how users communicate about shifts directly on shift cards. The first post in this section is the initial shift description. To continue the conversation, a user can tap on 'Comments' and they will be taken to a threaded Shift Comments page where they can respond. Group members who had visibility to the initial shift post will have visibility to the comments in this section.
Users can ask questions about their qualifications, shift specifics, or any information they need answered to help them determine if it is the right shift to cover. Once a user applies for the shift or adds a comment in this section, they become a shift post follower and will receive all notifications related to the shift and comments that follow.
Applying for a Shift
When a user is ready to cover a shift, they can tap on the green 'Apply to Cover' button that appears at the bottom of the application card. The application card is the foreground section that sits on top of the shift details. In this area, users can see their Profile Picture, Job Title, Shift Status, Scheduled Hours, Duration, and total hours if they are approved to work the shift.
Users can swipe up on the application card to view the ‘Schedule Analysis’ section. If the user has any Scheduled Shifts in Shyft, it will display the user’s previous shift, the shift being applied for, and the next scheduled shift. It can help identify conflicts such as an overlap or having enough time between shifts.
Viewing Application Comments
After a user applies to cover a shift, a chat bubble icon will appear at the top right of the application card. This is how a user can access the Application Comments section. Tapping on the chat bubble icon opens a private multi-user comment section where the participants in the thread are the post owner, the shift applicant, and the site Admins. Application Comments are a place where private conversations can take place such as reviewing personal qualifications for a shift, or specific reasons why a team member was Approved or Denied.
Shift Comments are used for sending larger public messages to all users who have shift visibility, while Application Comments are used for semi-private conversations with the applicable parties.
After Applying for a Shift
Once a user has applied to cover a shift, their shift application will be Pending Admin approval. Users will see their Pending shift application card in the Shift Marketplace section of the Calendar tab.
After an Admin approves or denies the application, all parties will be notified and the application status will convert to Approved or Denied. If it is a shift that has been Approved, the shift will transfer to appear in the Schedule section for the user who covered the shift and in the Roster Card for Admins. The employee will also receive a reminder notification 1 hour prior to the shift start time.
